Maintaining websites is a very important part of being a teacher in the 21st century. The website for Briar Woods High School, the high school I attended can be found at https://www.lcps.org/bwhs. The class pages are not the most well formatted, and the website is not the easiest to navigate, but the page is most assuredly serviceable. This site, of course, is catered to individuals who are ages 14-18, so the complications of navigation can most likely easily be circumnavigated. For example, the “staff” link is for staff to use, where as many might assume they can click that tab to go to the teachers pages. One actually must navigate to “academics” to find their teacher’s individual pages, which are not uniform in formatting when it comes to the actual links themselves.
I believe that technology is essential to accomplishing professional responsibilities. Of course, productivity software is a crucial part of all portions of the profession. Completing memos, spreadsheets, and documents require utilization of technology in the form of productivity software. More specifically, word processors contain myriad features which allow for many different tools to be utilized at once. E-mail and electronic collaboration is required to work with teachers and maintain correspondence with students, co-workers, and parents alike. Classroom management softwares also exist which allows for better organization and accountability of the classroom. Apps can be utilized to better connect with students.
The technology sandbox has an incredible amount of widely applicable technologies that can be used in the classroom. Virtual reality can help fully immerse hands-on learners to give them the opportunities to interact with material in a way that was previously impossible. The program that allows a camera to follow a teacher as they move around the room could be very good for creating take-home learning materials and allowing students to review lectures rather than being forced to refer to non-class sources for information.
